Frequent rentals made starting problems highly visible

A scooter-rental business in Rome operated 96 vehicles through a busy season running from April to October. Each scooter could be rented three or four times a day, creating frequent starts and short journeys.

The previous batteries began losing charge during the busiest months. A scooter that would not start created an immediate customer-service problem, even when the repair itself was small.

Starter capability and easier inspection

The fleet selected a 12.8 V, 12 Ah lithium starter specification with 320 A cold-cranking capability and Bluetooth monitoring. Staff could view battery voltage and state of charge without opening every scooter's battery cover.

A complete fleet check fell from four hours to forty minutes. This made it more practical to include battery condition in the regular turnaround between rentals.

Results through the busy season

Battery-related complaints fell from 47 in the comparison season to six after the change. At the end of the busy season, average remaining capacity was 97.2%. The installation used IP54 protection in summer conditions reaching 36°C.

The 96-battery purchase cost €5,952. Battery visibility supported the rental operation: quicker inspection helped the rental team manage a large number of vehicles with repeated daily handovers.
