A Protected Battery Installation Supports Parked-Cab Cooling in Riyadh

A Riyadh trucking project combined lithium auxiliary storage with a protected cab-side installation, maintaining parked air conditioning during the customer's hottest operating periods.

Cooling was most needed when heat exposure was highest

A trucking customer in Riyadh needed parked-cab air conditioning in a hot, dusty environment. The project addressed a difficult operating relationship: the battery was asked to support cooling at the same time that its own thermal conditions were most demanding.

The battery was installed behind the cab in an insulated compartment, with dust protection and a dedicated cooling arrangement rather than direct exposure to the hottest surrounding surfaces.

A protected 5.12 kWh installation

The project used a 24 V-class, 200 Ah lithium battery rated at 5.12 kWh. The specified battery-management behaviour reduced output at elevated temperature instead of immediately interrupting the auxiliary supply.

The enclosure combined IP65 protection with a dust screen. The customer's maintenance schedule included cleaning every 5,000 km. These installation and upkeep measures formed part of the operating arrangement for the hot, dusty route.

Cab comfort through the hottest period

During the project's reduced-output operating condition, the cab remained at approximately 26°C instead of the normal 22°C target. The initial procurement supplied 60 battery groups at US$1,240 per group.

Battery output had to support the level of cab cooling the driver needed. A suitable truck installation has to consider both the energy required for a rest period and the thermal conditions around the battery compartment.

Project FAQ

Questions about this project reference

Configuration, application and operating conditions for this project.

How did reduced battery output affect cab comfort?
Under the project's reduced-output condition, the cab stayed at about 26°C instead of the normal 22°C target. The system continued to support cooling with less available output. The relevant buyer question is whether that level of comfort is sufficient during the hottest rest periods, rather than whether the battery simply remains switched on.
Did IP65 protection remove the need for dust maintenance?
No. The installation also used a dust screen and a cleaning interval of 5,000 km. Keeping the cooling path clear remained part of the operating arrangement. The enclosure rating did not eliminate the effect of accumulated dust on airflow or make the compartment maintenance-free.
