An 80 V Lithium Conversion Supports Heavy Forklifts in Monterrey

A Monterrey appliance factory converted eighteen heavy forklifts to 80 V / 460 Ah lithium packs, combining new batteries, six chargers and changes to the site's ventilation arrangement.

Heat affected both the batteries and the facility

An appliance factory in Monterrey operated eighteen 80 V forklifts inside a steel-framed building. Its previous lead-acid batteries lasted around 2.5 years in the hot environment. Charging also required forced ventilation, adding to the building's cooling demand.

The conversion was considered at facility level: the batteries, charging equipment and ventilation arrangements all contributed to the cost of keeping the trucks in service.

A 36.8 kWh installation for the heavy-duty fleet

The factory adopted 80 V, 460 Ah lithium packs rated at 36.8 kWh, with forced-air cooling in the project arrangement. Eighteen packs were paired with six charging units.

Changes to the former charging ventilation arrangement reduced the associated air-conditioning load by 22 kW. The project recorded six hours of continuous operation without power derating in its operating assessment.

Project savings and preparation

The resulting annual facility electricity-cost saving was MXN 410,000. Investment in the batteries and six chargers totalled MXN 4.6 million.

The Bluetooth-equipped configuration required an additional six-week approval process before import. Communication equipment and site-service changes therefore affected both the project schedule and its economics.

Project FAQ

Questions about this project reference

Configuration, application and operating conditions for this project.

Did the 22 kW reduction describe forklift traction power?
No. It described the associated air-conditioning load reduction after changes to the former charging ventilation arrangement. The forklifts' traction duty was separate. The reported MXN 410,000 annual facility electricity saving reflects the project at building level, rather than battery efficiency alone.
What does six hours without power derating establish?
It is the result of the project's operating assessment with its forced-air cooling arrangement. It does not establish unrestricted full-power operation at every ambient temperature or load. A comparable heavy-duty shift needs its own load pattern and battery-compartment thermal conditions considered together.
Why did Bluetooth affect the delivery schedule?
The Bluetooth-equipped project configuration required an additional six-week approval process before import. That experience shows that communication hardware can affect procurement timing as well as monitoring features. The duration belongs to this shipment and approval process, not a fixed lead time for every destination.
