An 8.2 kWh Battery Upgrade Covers a Full Resort Shuttle Day in Málaga

A Málaga resort installed 51.2 V / 160 Ah lithium packs in 32 carts, achieving 58 km of tested range while carrying passengers and luggage on routes with 15% gradients.

Passenger transfers on a long resort site

A coastal resort in Málaga stretched across approximately 1.2 km. During the busy season, carts made around 60 trips and travelled 42 km daily, moving guests and luggage between the reception area and rooms.

The former lead-acid batteries began losing useful range after one intensive season. By the following summer, vehicles needed charging during the working day, interrupting the shuttle schedule.

Capacity for the load and gradient

The resort selected 51.2 V, 160 Ah lithium packs with approximately 8.2 kWh of energy. Battery mass fell from 310 kg to 58 kg, a reduction of 252 kg.

Testing with four passengers and six pieces of luggage on routes including 15% gradients produced 58 km of range. The vehicles could therefore complete their 42 km working day without an intermediate charging stop. An insulating layer was fitted in the compartment; cell temperature stayed below 41°C during the project's summer operation.

Condition after the busy season

After five months of intensive seasonal use, the fleet's average battery state of health was 98.6%. The 32-pack order totalled €42,240 at €1,320 per unit, with eight fast-charging stations included in the project package.

The shuttle duty combined several demands: passenger load, luggage, gradients and the length of a busy day all shaped the required battery capacity.

Project FAQ

Questions about this project reference

Configuration, application and operating conditions for this project.

Why did the resort choose approximately 8.2 kWh rather than a smaller pack?
Its carts travelled about 42 km a day carrying passengers and luggage, with gradients reaching 15%. The selected 51.2 V, 160 Ah pack achieved 58 km in the loaded test. That provided room beyond the working route and removed an intermediate charging stop from the guest-service schedule.
Does the 98.6% state-of-health result establish long-term battery life?
It describes the fleet average after five months of intensive seasonal use. It is useful evidence for that operating period, but it is not an eight- or ten-year service-life result. Continued use, storage between seasons and the duty of individual carts will shape later capacity retention.
