Opportunity Charging Releases Warehouse Space in Łódź

A Łódź distribution centre converted 46 forklifts to lithium batteries and twelve distributed charging points, allowing a 260 m² charging room to become picking space.

The charging room occupied useful logistics space

An e-commerce distribution centre in Łódź operated 46 forklifts across two shifts. Its former battery arrangement required a 260 m² charging room with 46 positions and dedicated ventilation equipment. The ventilation and hydrogen-management provision had cost €38,000.

The customer wanted a charging approach that fitted short breaks and reduced the space devoted to the old battery routine.

Twelve charging points within the working layout

The project fitted 400 Ah lithium packs to the 48 V forklift fleet and provided twelve charging points using 15 kW chargers. Drivers charged during breaks, bringing replenishment closer to the work areas instead of moving every truck to the former room.

The previous charging room was reassigned to picking operations. The change made the 260 m² useful to the warehouse's core activity while supporting the two-shift schedule.

Space and energy investment considered together

At the site's space-cost basis of €4.2 per square metre per month, the released area represented approximately €13,100 annually. Total project investment was €268,000, covering 46 battery groups, twelve chargers and electrical modifications.

A 30% project subsidy reduced the customer's expenditure to approximately €188,000. The conversion combined an energy-system change with a measurable improvement in how warehouse floor space was used.

Project FAQ

Questions about this project reference

Configuration, application and operating conditions for this project.

How could twelve charging points support forty-six forklifts?
The trucks used charging positions at different breaks across the two-shift schedule. The number of positions therefore did not have to equal the number of trucks. Whether twelve points are sufficient at another site depends on arrival patterns, energy used between breaks and how long each truck occupies a charger.
What did reassigning the 260 m² room contribute financially?
At the project's €4.2-per-square-metre monthly space-cost basis, the area represented about €13,100 a year. The warehouse used it for picking operations. This is a value assigned to space released for another purpose; it is not automatically a cash reduction in rent if the building lease stays unchanged.
How did the subsidy affect the customer's investment?
The project received a 30% subsidy, reducing expenditure from €268,000 to approximately €188,000. Removing that contribution changes the investment basis. A comparison also needs the same battery, charger and electrical-work scope, together with the relevant operating savings and value of the released space.
